Eco-friendly Train Launched

The Indian Railways launched the country’s first hydrogen-fuelled train. This train is part of the Indian Railways’ ‘Hydrogen for Heritage’ programme to promote green transit.

  • The Indian Railways launched the country’s first hydrogen-fuelled train. This train is part of the Indian Railways’ ‘Hydrogen for Heritage’ programme to promote green transit.
  • The train was launched on July 17, 2026, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Jind, Haryana.
  • The train will operate along the 89km route between Jind and Sonipat. It has 10 coaches and a capacity to transport 2,600 passengers, offering efficiency along with sustainability.
  • With a maximum speed of 75kmph and a propulsion system with 3,200 horsepower, the train offers an effective transport option.
  • India is now amongst the few countries in the world that operates trains powered by hydrogen, marking an important step in India’s journey towards embracing clean transportation technologies.
