Eco-friendly Certification for Himachal Zoo 

The Durgesh Aranya Zoological Park in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district is set to become the first zoo in India to receive an Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) certification.

  • The Durgesh Aranya Zoological Park in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district is set to become the first zoo in India to receive an Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) certification. The IGBC certification highlights the zoo’s compliance with the environmental standards established by IGBC. 
  • This announcement was made by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on November 2. According to him, the zoo will serve as a benchmark for sustainability and also attract tourists. 
  • The zoo is expected to be constructed at a cost of `619 crore and will house a variety of species including monitor lizards, Asiatic lions and crocodiles. 
  • It will also include a wetland aviary for birds and a nocturnal house that will allow zoo visitors to observe different feline species.
