India’s New Chief Justice

Justice DY Chandrachud has taken oath as the Chief Justice of India (CJI) for two years.

Justice DY Chandrachud has taken oath as the Chief Justice of India (CJI) for two years. His term will end on November 10, 2024. He succeeds Justice Uday Umesh Lalit, who had a short tenure of 74 days. Justice Chandrachud has been a part of several landmark verdicts such as the Ayodhya land dispute. He is the son of the late Justice YV Chandrachud, who was the longest-serving CJI; he held the post for seven years.
