The Aditya Nath Jha Deer Park in Delhi’s Hauz Khas area will be closed due to an increase in the deer population. The Central Zoo Authority (CZA) cancelled the park’s recognition as a mini-zoo. Deer from the park will be translocated to forest areas in Rajasthan and Delhi in a ratio of 70:30. Due to the absence of a natural predator in the area, the population of deer has grown tremendously over the decades, especially in the last decade. The number of deer in the 55-year-old park is estimated to have increased from 200 in 2010 to 600 in 2023. The park, which also houses ducks and rabbits, will be classified as a protected forest and will remain open for visitors.
