To provide education facilities to homeless children, children of labourers and dropouts, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) plans to start mobile school buses. Buses will be converted into classrooms and will consist of desks, chalkboards, fans, lights and other amenities. The vice-chairperson of NDMC, Satish Upadhyay stated that the mobile school bus initiative will be started on a pilot basis. A feasibility study will be carried out to calculate the number of children in need across New Delhi and Lutyens’ areas before the plan is implemented. This initiative is inspired by Gujarat’s ‘Schools on Wheels’ initiative that was started in 2018.
