A compact galaxy, approximately 1,000 times smaller in size than the Milky Way, was spotted by the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). According to scientists, this galaxy was formed around 510 million years after the Big Bang and has a diameter of around 100 light years. The rate at which new stars are formed in this galaxy is similar to that of the Milky Way. The JWST is more sensitive than the Hubble Space Telescope and has the ability to make observations at considerable distances because of its huge light-collecting area.

In approximately 4.5 million years, the Milky Way will merge with its neighbouring galaxy, Andromeda.
