A new catfish species that belongs to the genus Pangasius was discovered in the Mettur Dam in Tamil Nadu’s Salem district by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (ICAR-NBFGR). The discovery was made when the team visited the dam to conduct a study on the different species of catfish found in the Kaveri River. Named Icaria, after the organisation that made its discovery, this species is edible and popular among locals.
