Harvard University has named Claudine Gay, who is currently dean of the faculty of arts and sciences of the college, as the institution’s 30th president. She will assume her role as president of the Ivy League college from July 1, 2023. She is the first African American person and the second woman to serve in this capacity. Gay received her PhD from Harvard in 1998 and joined as a professor at the institution in 2006. She is the founding chair of Harvard’s ‘Inequality in America Initiative’, an initiative that studies the causes and effects of inequality and various other issues.
