Marcel LeBrun, a Canadian millionaire, has dedicated himself to building tiny homes to end homelessness in the New Brunswick city of Fredericton. He has started the 12 Neighbors community, which houses 99 tiny homes and is specifically designed to offer the town’s estimated 1,600 homeless population a second chance. Each house has solar panels on its roof and a front porch where people can sit around and chat. The insides of the houses are created with modern, compact engineering. The living rooms double up as bedrooms and the homes have well-equipped kitchens and bathrooms. The community is trying to be self-sufficient, with a community centre that not only offers coffee, but also has spots for residents to work and a teaching centre.
