Michael Rosen, a well-known British children’s writer and poet, has been awarded the PEN Pinter Prize 2023 for his outstanding contributions to literature. Established in honour of playwright Harold Pinter, the prestigious award is presented to a writer who resides in Ireland, the UK or the Commonwealth and whose literary work focuses on fearlessly describing the truth about present-day life and society. 77-year-old Rosen has written over 200 books for children and adults during his lifetime including ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’, ‘Totally Wonderful Miss Plumberry’ and ‘Lunch Boxes Don’t Fly’. He served as the UK’s Children’s Laureate from 2007 to 2009 and was one of the first poets to visit schools to talk to children and teach them about literature and poetry.
