Bara: Crispy Fritters

Try these crispy fritters and for more nutrition, add vegetables to the batter.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup urad dal
  • 2 tablespoons rice
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • ÂĽ cup green onion, finely chopped
  • 3 to 4 green chillies, finely chopped
  • Chopped coriander
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • Oil for frying

METHOD

  • Soak the urad dal and rice together for 4 to 5 hours.
  • Grind them together with minimal water.
  • Whip the mix well with your hands so it becomes fluffy.
  • Add the onions, chillies, coriander, salt and cumin seeds and whip it well again.
  • Heat some oil in a kadhai for frying.
  • Wet a spoon or your hands with water, take a spoonful of the batter and release it in the hot oil.
  • Fry it on a medium flame till it becomes golden brown.
  • Enjoy with green chutney, tomato chutney or tomato sauce.

Note: The more you whip, the fluffier and better the baras will be. For more nutritious baras, add vegetables like chopped carrots and spinach.
