Bappi Lahiri, an Indian singer, composer and record producer, passed away on February 15 at the age of 69 years. He grew in popularity in the 1980s after he introduced disco-style music in Bollywood soundtracks. In 1986, he was recognised by Guinness World Records for recording more than 180 songs in a year. Lahiri was born to Bengali parents who were singers and musicians. He began to play the tabla at the age of three years and idolised American musician Elvis Presley, who also inspired him to wear his trademark gold jewellery.
