The use of wheeled luggage has been banned in Dubrovnik, a popular tourist destination in Europe’s Croatia. The ban was imposed by Mato Frankovic, the mayor of Dubrovnik, as the residents of the city have been complaining about noise pollution caused due to the dragging of wheeled luggage around the city by tourists. Visitors who use wheeled luggage will have to pay a fine of $288. From November, a system will be established by the local government where tourists will have to leave their luggage outside the city. The luggage will then be couriered to the visitors’ addresses. This step was undertaken as part of the ‘Respect the City’ initiative introduced by the Dubrovnik Tourist Office, which also urges visitors to refrain from climbing on monuments and walking pets without a leash.
