To improve the quality of education in Sikkim, the state’s chief minister Prem Singh Tamang declared that the best private schools in Sikkim will receive awards from the year 2024. Based on their performance, the top three schools in the state will receive cash prizes of ₹20 lakh, ₹15 lakh and ₹10 lakh, respectively. Tamang made the announcement during the State Education Awards 2023 event that was held at Saramsa Garden in Sikkim in November. He also highlighted the role of education in the state’s progress and the importance of teachers in the education system. Under the awards initiative, 25% of the cash prize that will be awarded to the best schools will be utilised for teachers.
