Indian author Arundhati Roy has been awarded the PEN Pinter Prize 2024 for her fearless and powerful literary work. She will receive the prestigious award at a ceremony in October. The PEN Pinter Prize was established in honour of Harold Pinter, a renowned British playwright, and recognises writers whose literary work fearlessly describes the truths of present-day society and life. It is an annual award presented to writers living in the Commonwealth, the UK or the Republic of Ireland. Roy has authored several books including ‘The Ministry of Utmost Happiness’ and ‘The Algebra of Infinite Justice’. The 62-year-old is also an activist and her work is centred on economic and social issues. Roy was the recipient of the 1997 Booker Prize for her novel, ‘The God of Small Things’.
