The first automated teller machine (ATM) that dispenses grains has been introduced by the Odisha government in Bhubaneswar. This ATM, named ‘Annapurti Grain ATM’, allows beneficiaries to access rice and wheat 24×7.
Beneficiaries will be able to access grains by entering their ration card number or their Aadhar card details in the machine. The grains will be dispensed after the beneficiaries undergo biometric verification.
The machine, developed by the Odisha government in collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP), can dispense up to 50kgs of grains in only five minutes.
This ATM will soon be set up in all of Odisha’s districts and is expected to enhance the state’s public distribution system (PDS).
The modular and energy-efficient design of the grain ATM allows it to be easily installed in various types of locations.
