Ashish Chauhan has been appointed as the new managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) of the National Stock Exchange (NSE). He will replace Vikram Limaye who completed his five-year term on July 16. Chauhan’s term at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), where he currently serves as the MD and CEO, will end in November.
Chauhan was part of a five-member team from Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI) that set up the NSE and played a significant role in the organisation from 1993 to 2000. He created the NIFTY index and was responsible for setting up India’s screen-based trading system. He helped the BSE become the fastest exchange in the world and introduced many financial products.
