The ‘Asha Kirana-eye care at your doorstep’ scheme was launched by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on February 18. The scheme involves Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers and healthcare professionals visiting homes to carry out eye check-ups to decrease avoidable blindness. The programme has been initiated under the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment and aims to provide eye check-ups to individuals of all ages across Karnataka. Under the scheme, individuals will undergo further eye examinations in primary health centres (PHCs) if required. The scheme also provides free cataract surgeries and free spectacles to beneficiaries.
