Apple has announced the discontinuation of the iPod Touch, marking the end of an era of portable music devices that the company had pioneered 20 years ago. Apple introduced the iPod in October 2001. Many versions of the iPod were introduced over the years, including the iPod Shuffle and the iPod Nano. All these products were eventually discontinued as they became redundant. The company announced in May that the last iteration, the iPod Touch, which was introduced in 2007, would be discontinued and would only be available in markets till stocks last. The launch of the iPod was of great significance as it set the stage for the development of the iPhone, iPad and a variety of other products that make up most of the company’s revenue.
