India’s Ministry of Education plans to introduce the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR), a unique identification number for Indian students, which will enable them to track their academic accomplishments, skills acquired and extra-curricular achievements digitally. Also called the ‘One Nation, One Student ID’, APAAR was proposed as part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The registry system will record data of students from pre-primary to higher education across India. The system will also be helpful to students who change their educational institution as all the data required during the admissions process will be easily available.
