At least 125 tombs have been found by archaeologists working on an ancient Roman cemetery in Gaza that was discovered in 2022. Many of these tombs have intact skeletons and archaeologists also discovered two rare sarcophaguses adorned with pictures of dolphins and grapes in the tombs. Gaza was a significant trading hub for ancient civilisations but archaeologists have been unable to uncover and protect its archaeological marvels. The 2,000-year-old cemetery will provide archaeologists insights into the trade practices, funeral rituals and history of the region.
