Astronomers at the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy, Germany, discovered two streams of stars that can provide an insight into the formation of the Milky Way galaxy, which was formed around 13.6 billion years ago. The discovery of the star streams, which have been named Shakti and Shiva, was made using data from the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Gaia space telescope. Astronomers believe these structures are the remains of galaxies that combined with the Milky Way galaxy around 12 billion years ago and each one of them has a mass approximately 10 million times more than that of the sun. The star streams aided in the evolution of the Milky Way billions of years ago.
