A 3,500-year-old scent that was used in an Egyptian noblewoman’s mummification balm was recreated by scientists. The noblewoman whose name was Senetnay was mummified around 3,500 years ago and her organs were stored in canopic jars that were discovered in the Valley of Kings in Egypt in 1900. Scientists studied the residue of the balm left in these jars and were able to identify the ingredients used to prepare the balm. It was found that the balm was made with a variety of ingredients including beeswax, coumarin, fats and oils and resins of trees belonging to the pine family. The perfume has been named ‘The Scent of Eternal Life’.
