Kolkata-born actor Anasuya Sengupta created history by becoming the first Indian actor to bag the ‘Best Actress’ award at the Cannes Film Festival in France. She won the award for her role in the film ‘The Shameless’ directed by Constantin Bojanov, a Bulgarian director. Sengupta, who holds a degree in English literature from Jadavpur University, West Bengal, initially wanted to pursue a career in journalism. Her career in acting commenced with the 2009 film ‘Madly Bangalee’ in which she played a supporting role. She has also worked in theatre and as a production designer. As a production designer, she contributed to the popular Netflix series ‘Masaba Masaba’.
