Amsterdam, the capital city of Netherlands, has decided to support the proposed Plant Based Treaty, an initiative that aims to deal with the effects of food systems on the environment and climate change. This move makes Amsterdam the first capital city in the European Union to support the treaty. Launched in 2021, the Plant Based Treaty aims to stop the destruction of the environment resulting from animal agriculture and encourages the consumption of sustainable plant-based foods. The Plant Based Treaty has received support from numerous non-governmental organisations, individuals and businesses globally. More than 20 municipal governments around the world including Los Angeles have supported the treaty.
