Indian author Amitav Ghosh has been honoured with the Erasmus Prize 2024 for underscoring the challenges faced due to the climate crisis through his work. The prize is among Europe’s most prestigious honours and is awarded by the board of the Praemium Erasmianum Foundation to a person or institution to recognise their contributions to the field of social sciences, the humanities or the arts every year. Ghosh, who was born in Kolkata, has authored numerous books including ‘The Glass Palace’, ‘The Circle of Reason’ and ‘The Great Derangement: Climate Change and the Unthinkable’. He has won numerous awards for his work including the Padma Shri in 2007 and the Jnanpith Award in 2018.
