The first Airbus C295 for India completed its three-hour-long maiden flight, taking off from Seville in Spain on May 5. The Airbus C295 is a tactical airlifter in the light and medium segment and can perform a variety of missions. 56 C295 aircraft were purchased by India in 2021 to replace the Indian Air Force’s AVRO fleet. The assembly of the first 16 aircraft will take place in Spain, after which they will be delivered to India in ‘fly-away’ condition by the second half of 2023. The subsequent 40 aircraft will be manufactured in India by TATA Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) as part of the industrial partnership between TASL and Airbus.
