On May 30, an Indian Institute of Technology Madras-incubated startup called AgniKul Cosmos created history by launching the world’s first rocket powered by a single-piece 3D-printed rocket engine.
The Agnibaan SOrTeD (sub-orbital technology demonstrator) rocket powered by the 3D-printed rocket engine was launched from the mobile launchpad Dhanush, which was established by AgniKul Cosmos. This made it India’s first rocket to be launched from a privately developed launchpad.
The rocket’s engine makes use of both liquid and gaseous fuels, which also makes the launch the country’s first semi-cryogenic engine-powered rocket launch.
This launch will test the engine and systems for AgniKul Cosmos’ orbital rocket, Agnibaan.
