Raksha Bandhan is a Hindu festival that celebrates the loving relationship and strong bond between brothers and sisters. This year, Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated on August 19. SCARLETT RODRIGUES asked a few RobinAgers about their relationship with their siblings or cousins, their favourite memories with them and what they admire most about them. Here’s what they had to say.

BIG SISTER Sent by Ikshita Chaddha, Class 5, St Mary’s School, Pune
Being a big sister is extraordinary But it is a big responsibility Having little moments of fun To share with the little one Not one day goes by When they make you laugh and cry Care for them every day And then you go and play Go through everything together And be a big sister for ever & ever!!!

My sister is four years younger than me but despite our age difference, we love spending time with each other. We do numerous activities such as singing, dancing and playing basketball together, which makes our bond grow stronger. Both of us attend basketball classes together regularly. Here, we often compete with each other, but in the end, we learn from each other and enjoy each other’s company. We also make dance videos together, which we thoroughly enjoy. We do almost everything together as that’s what sisters are for! On Raksha Bandhan, my sister and I tie rakhis for each other because we believe that the festival represents not just a brother-sister bond, but siblings’ love for each other.

I have a cousin named Hridhaan who is like a sibling to me. We have the same nature and every time we meet, we create delightful memories together. We constantly help each other improve. We love talking about our lives and hobbies. Most of all, we like to share secrets. He always gives me advice when I have any difficulty. We deeply understand and learn a lot from each other. I love cricket and Hridhaan is passionate about art, which I admire. We often exchange our knowledge about our passions. He always cares for me and checks up on me. I connect with him effortlessly and enjoy his company. He means the world to me!

I have a cousin brother who I am very close to. He is very good at planning events and socialising. He always pushes people to try new things and have fun. This is what I admire about him. When I visited him during my summer vacation, he prepared a plan of all the activities we would be doing in advance. We enjoyed cricket together and he taught me many new techniques. He also taught me many new indoor activities and puzzles. To add to the enjoyment, he planned a fun trip to the beach. We enjoyed ice golas, ate popcorn and played in the sand. He even encouraged me to ride a horse. He inspires me to be the best version of myself.

I have a special bond with my cousin sister. We are like ‘partners in crime’, because we not only play pranks on people, but also end up getting scolded together. We do a lot of fun activities together. Last winter, we decided to make a jacket for our pet dog named Juno. It was so much fun running after him, trying to take his measurements. After hours of chasing him, we were able to take his measurements and get something on him. We have planned to make ethnic wear for him next. I think Juno heard us discussing this, as he rarely comes out of his doghouse ever since!

I have a sister who is four years older than me. We have created many wonderful memories together. The most wonderful thing my sister did for me was give me a surprise on my birthday. This year, I was looking forward to celebrating my birthday with my friends and family. One morning, while I was studying in my room, my sister suddenly entered my room, closed my eyes and handed me a parcel with the message ‘Happy Birthday to Our Sunshine! Let the countdown begin!’ I unwrapped the parcel very excitedly. My sister had gifted me a customised clock with my picture on it. It was very pretty and thoughtful! I hugged my sister and thanked her for the surprise. There were nine more surprises to come. I received a gift every day for nine days after that. This was the best birthday ever!

My brother Arush is very loving and sweet. He helps me with many activities such as folding my clothes and solving puzzles. He helps me decide what activities to do when I am bored at home. I am always happy around him. The best memory I have with him is of when we did ziplining in Ooty. He is very protective of me, takes care of me and teaches me new things. My brother is the best of all!
