The Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal, Bengaluru’s first airport-like train station, began operations on June 6, with the departure of the Banaswadi-Ernakulam Express. This terminal at Baiyappanahalli in Bengaluru is centrally air-conditioned and has a VIP lounge, food court, rainwater harvesting mechanism, solar rooftop panels and parking lot that can accommodate over 900 two-wheelers and 200 four-wheelers. The ₹314-crore terminal has been modeled on the lines of Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport. The terminal has seven platforms, which will cater to 50,000 people and 50 trains every day.
