Providing a boost to conservation, the Natural History Museum (NHM) in Mizoram has been designated as a repository by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

  • Providing a boost to conservation, the Natural History Museum (NHM) in Mizoram has been designated as a repository by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
  • The museum has received this designation under the Biological Diversity Act, 2002. With this, it has become the 21st repository of its kind in India.
  • Designated repositories safeguard and store biological material that helps researchers study different animal and plant species, including new species.
  • According to officials, the NHM, which has been set up within Mizoram University, will play a vital role in the protection of the diverse flora and fauna of Northeast India. NHM is located in Aizawl, which is the capital of Mizoram.
