Researchers at Dartmouth College, USA, have found that octopuses can find food after observing the food’s reflection in a mirror. The study involved training California two-spot octopuses to use the reflection of their prey to determine the prey’s actual location. For the experiments, a mirror displaying the reflection of a crab was placed in front of the octopuses. Upon observing the reflection, the octopuses began moving to the actual location of the prey, rather than reaching out for the image in the mirror. According to researchers, the creatures were able to determine the site of the food with approximately 73% accuracy, exhibiting spatial cognition.
