A group of archaeologists has found six shipwrecks in Nassau and the surrounding region, in the Bahamas, providing insights into pirate activities many years ago. Among these ships, three are believed to be from the period between the 1680s and the 1730s, the phase known as the ‘Golden Age of Piracy’. The items found during the archaeologists’ expedition include weapons such as lead musket balls and cannon balls, indicating potential pirate activity. Nassau served as the headquarters for many known pirates such as Edward Teach and Calico Jack Rackham. The popular ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie franchise has also drawn inspiration from historic pirate activities in the Caribbean region.
