Based on the World Economic Outlook (WEO), a survey by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that shows economic projections, India is now the sixth-largest economy in the world, marking a change compared to an earlier projection. As per the WEO released earlier in April 2025, India was headed to become the fourth-largest economy in the world. Experts believe this shift is mainly associated with a statistical change and the value of the Indian rupee in relation to the dollar rather than a declining economy. Additionally, India has adopted a new GDP base year, which has also influenced its position.
