Due to other priorities and issues, India has withdrawn its offer to host the 33rd United Nations Conference of the Parties (COP33), which it had previously proposed to host. The 33rd session of the prestigious annual climate conference is scheduled to take place in 2028 and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had extended an invitation to host it during his COP28 speech in Dubai in 2023. Randhir Jaiswal, the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, announced India’s decision amid numerous considerations in April 2026. However, he highlighted India’s continued efforts towards its climate goals.
