Scientists have discovered proof that humans lived in a frigid climate that was previously considered unsuitable for survival. Scientists found more than 400 artefacts at a site in the Yarlung Tsangpo River Valley in Tibet in 2019. These artefacts comprise pieces of ochre and stone implements, suggesting that humans once lived in the region. On conducting radiocarbon dating, it was found that humans inhabited the region even during the Last Glacial Maximum, a phase when majority of the Earth was blanketed by ice. The harsh climatic conditions during this phase, spanning from 26,500 to 19,000 years ago, made human life extremely challenging. This discovery highlights the capacity of ancient humans to adapt to their environment.
