Researchers at the University of Bayreuth, Germany, and Aalto University, Finland, have created a hydrogel that possesses the characteristics of human skin. This hydrogel exhibits flexibility and can repair itself in a day. The hydrogel makes use of extremely thin clay nanosheets, which develop a tightly interwoven network of polymers and give the hydrogel its toughness. This newly developed material will aid in the quick recovery of wounds and cuts. Researchers believe it will have numerous medical applications including expediting wound healing after surgery and helping patients suffering from burns to heal quickly.
