Have you heard the news? Of course, most of you have. The Telangana Government is cutting down the Kancha forest in Gachibowli, Hyderabad, spread around 400 acres for IT development.
For your information, the Kancha forest is Hyderabad’s last remaining urban forest and is spread over a vast area of around 400 acres. Located in the heart of Hyderabad near the Hyderabad University, the forest is a home to more than 700 flowering plant species, 200 bird species and not forgetting the beautiful migratory birds that come from far away places only for certain seasons. Not only these, if you look closely, you may even find deer, wild boars, and even porcupines. This forest also serves as ‘The Green Lungs of Hyderabad’.
Unfortunately, people forget the importance of forests and misuse them nowadays. Did you know that 100 of the 400 acres have already been cut down overnight? Many animals and birds were heard screaming and whining in the forest. Many university students have protested the cutting of the trees.
Luckily, the matter has reached the Supreme Court, and the tree-felling has been temporarily halted until further notice, but not permanently closed.
I think we should all contribute our part in saving nature for the best of all of us and the generations yet to come. This is a fight for the innocent plants, animals, and birds out there who can’t speak for themselves, but we can, for them. This is not only their fight. This is our fight. We must all do whatever we can. So, what are you waiting for?
