Have you ever come across a tree with a luscious, green canopy, big, juicy fruits and pretty flowers? Trees are admired for their beauty, the fruits they bear and the shade they provide. Trees are also home to a variety of insects and birds. Yet, the trees we so admire are held in place by a hidden part—their roots.
The roots of a tree anchor deep within the soil, providing it unwavering support and keeping it steady, come wind or rain. Penetrating deep into the earth, the roots gather nutrients and water from the soil to nourish the tree and help it blossom. Thus, trees grow both upwards, getting taller and more majestic, and downwards, spreading their roots deep into the earth.
Trees offer us some crucial life lessons:
- An individual’s achievements can be compared to the flourishing and bountiful part of the tree, which comprises the leaves, flowers and fruits. These parts are visible. Similar to these visible parts, life’s successes such as winning a match, learning to ride a bicycle or excelling in an examination are noticed and praised by everyone.
- However, these triumphs would be impossible in the absence of roots—hard work, dedication, out of the box thinking, perseverance and practice. An individual’s efforts, though unseen, are the driving force for their success.
- Similar to how the roots of a tree push through obstacles in the soil, an individual’s persistence and resilience lay the foundation for their growth and accomplishments. Thus, visible success is backed by invisible efforts and grit, reminding us to focus not only on outcomes, but also on the sacrifices and hard work that contribute to them.
