

Indian rocket scientist V Narayanan has taken on the role of secretary, Department of Space, chairman, Space Commission, and chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
Indian rocket scientist V Narayanan has taken on the role of secretary, Department of Space, chairman, Space Commission, and chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Narayanan, who has almost 40 years of experience working with ISRO, replaced S Somanath who held the position previously. He has advanced knowledge and expertise in propulsion systems. He became part of ISRO in 1984 and has played a key role in many of the organisation’s major missions including the Chandrayaan missions. Before serving in his new role, he held the position of director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC), a propulsion systems development facility that operates under ISRO. Narayanan, who is an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur alumnus, will be in charge of supervising ISRO’s upcoming projects including the Bharatiya Antariksha Station (BAS) and the Venus Orbiter in his new role.
