  • A glass bridge connecting the Thiruvalluvar Statue and the Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari was inaugurated in December. This bridge, measuring 10mts wide and 77mts long, is the first glass bridge in India to be constructed across the sea.
  • This bridge was built at a cost of ₹37 crore and aims to improve the link between the two iconic structures. The glass bridge lets visitors see the sea beneath their feet and eases travel between the two structures.
  • The bridge is fashioned to resemble a bowstring arch and uses transparent glass.
  • It has been engineered to cope with humidity, powerful winds and other marine conditions.
  • The area where the bridge stands is surrounded by the Laccadive Sea, where the Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea meet.
