A British-Indian student named Anoushka Kale secured 126 votes to achieve the presidency of the Cambridge Union Society, a debating society at the University of Cambridge, UK. 20-year-old Kale is set to take on the prestigious role for the Easter 2025 term and will prioritise fostering cultural cooperation. Additionally, she plans to make the union’s activities more accessible to students and eagerly continue conducting debates. Established in the year 1815, the Cambridge Union Society offers a platform for deliberation and discussion and has seen the participation of several renowned personalities such as Theodore Roosevelt, Margaret Thatcher and Bill Gates in the past. Kale stands out as one of the few women of South Asian origin to be selected as the society’s president.
