The Marathi language, which had been optional before, will be made a compulsory subject in junior colleges across Maharashtra.

December 01, 2024

The Marathi language, which had been optional before, will be made a compulsory subject in junior colleges across Maharashtra. As part of the National Education Policy 2020, students of classes 11 and 12 will have access to three learning levels–functional Marathi, general Marathi and professional Marathi– based on the student’s previous understanding of the language and medium of instruction in school. Each of these levels will carry a 100-mark assessment. Additionally, the language, which was compulsory in only Maharashtra State Board schools, has been made compulsory in all schools across the state from the coming academic year.
