To help with location tracking and to improve the security of personnel in the armed forces, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Indore, has innovated shoes that make use of triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) technology. These shoes produce electricity as the user walks and the energy produced is stored in a small device in the soles of the shoes. Army personnel can utilise this electricity to energise tiny electronic gadgets conveniently. The other features of the shoes include global positioning system (GPS) technology, which will enable efficient location tracking and improve military operations. These shoes can also be used by athletes to boost their sports performance and to track the movement of children.
