The Tamil Nadu government has expanded the free breakfast scheme, a scheme that initially provided free breakfast to students of the state’s government primary schools, to government-aided primary schools. The scheme was launched in government primary schools in 2022 and students from classes 1 to 5 were given free breakfast under the initiative. The scheme has numerous advantages including improved attendance. The extension of the scheme is expected to benefit more than 2 lakh children enrolled in government-aided primary schools.
