‘The Prisoner of Bhopal’ is a moving tale that marks the 40th anniversary of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy and the work done by the 9th Bhopal Infantry. The story follows the life of protagonist Amil who hopes to work at the pesticide factory but is taken away from home to pay off his family’s debt. The story takes on an interesting turn when Amil discovers a secret First World War notebook; and with that develops a mystical talent he shared with his grandfather—to interpret the wind. From here on the fictional narrative takes a turn as Amil learns about the horrific effects of poison gas on both soldiers and Bhopal inhabitants. The book explores topics of caste, poverty and corporate carelessness. It also prompts readers to understand the relevance of historical events in today’s times.
