Scientists have discovered an exoplanet that has the potential to harbour life around 40 light years away from Earth. Called Gliese 12 b, this planet is approximately the same size as Earth and orbits a cool, red dwarf star called Gliese 12. According to observations, Gliese 12 b’s surface temperature is around 42°C, which suggests that liquid water could be present on the planet. The existence of water could make the planet habitable. However, scientists are uncertain whether the planet has an atmosphere. Further studies will be carried out to determine if the planet has an atmosphere and to study its nature.
