NASA Astronaut Sunita Williams Leaves for Third Space Mission

National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) astronaut Sunita Williams went on her third space mission on May 6.

National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) astronaut Sunita Williams went on her third space mission on May 6. Williams, who is of Indian origin, was accompanied by fellow NASA astronaut Butch Wilmore and the two created history by becoming the first astronauts to travel to the International Space Station (ISS) aboard Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft. Williams and Wilmore piloted the spacecraft’s first crewed test flight and spent a week at the ISS. The aim of the mission was to test the transportation capabilities of the Starliner system. Williams commenced her career with NASA in 1998 and went on her first space mission in 2006. She has received numerous honours including the Humanitarian Service Medal and the Legion of Merit for her work.
