From Wheels to Medals: My Journey of Passion and Success in Skating

Mishika Kapadia, Class 5, Udgam School for Children, Thaltej, Ahmedabad

“Success is not just result of one day’s effort it is achieved after putting hard work for years.” There is saying in English that behind every successful male there is women similarly behind every successful student there are parents and teachers. Today I am Mishika Kapadia sharing short story about my success in skating.

Mostly people prefer common sports like cricket, football, hockey etc. But since my childhood I have deep interest in speed. That is precisely the reason I chose skating as my interest. At the age of 4 I had put on the wheels for the first time. I still remember that how exited I was! Since then, I had never looked back in giving my 100% energy in skating. But that journey was not that simple. I used to go for road practice at 5:00AM daily. I used to practice for 2 hours daily in morning and 1 hour in evening.

The practice sessions were so tough that my energy used to get drained. Manier times I had got injured badly during practice but that has made me strong mentally. Looking at my injuries our elders in family used to tell me to quit this activity. But I was sure that what might happen I will never leave skating. This is the kind of passion I had for skating. After getting trained for 8 months my instructor inspired me to participate in different competitions. I had started participating in city level and state level competitions. I had earned 11 medals, trophies, many certificates in the span of 3 years only. Securing 2nd passion and getting silver medal in 38th Gujarat level competition was my best performance so far.

Year 2018-2019 was my dream run. My school, UDGAM SCHOOL FOR CHILDREN has always supported and encouraged me to do well in this sport. My parents, all teachers and school management had always motived me. Unfortunately, in 2020 due to medical emergency in my family I was not able to focus on skating. This had resulted in loosing the confidence and stamina which is very much important in every sport.

I must admit that skating has given new direction to my life. Because of skating I have become confident, energetic and have developed fighting spirit within myself. This is having lot of importance in today’s world. How can I forget to say that this would have never been possible if my parents and teachers were not behind me to encourage me.

I am confident that I will be able to regain the confidence and stamina and I will come back strongly in skating with all my might. After all skating is my first love and how can I forget it!
