A Russian cosmonaut named Oleg Kononenko broke the world record for spending the most time in space on February 4. The 59-year-old spent more than 878 days in orbit, breaking the record set by Gennady Padalka, also a Russian cosmonaut. Kononenko is presently onboard the International Space Station (ISS) and is expected to complete a total of 1,000 days in space on June 5. Kononenko’s current mission to the ISS, which commenced on September 15, 2023, is his fifth space mission. His current expedition is expected to end on September 23 by which time he would have completed 1,110 days in space.
